Spend Your Money

Money is pointless unless you spend it. That’s not so say that you should spend beyond your means – that’s not a good idea. But you don’t want to be someone who is constantly hoarding their money and never spending it.

On it’s own money is just a bit of paper, a bit of metal, or a digital number. On it’s own it’s worth little, except the things we actually do with it.

The Miser

A miser, to make sure of his property, sold all that he had and converted it into a great lump of gold, which he hid in a hole in the ground, and went continually to visit and inspect it.

This roused the curiosity of one of his workmen, who, suspecting that there was a treasure, when his master’s back was turned, went to the spot, and stole it away.

When the miser returned and found the place empty, he wept and tore his hair.

But a neighbour who saw him in this extravagant grief, and learned the cause of it, said:

“Fret thyself no longer, but take a stone and put it in the same place, and think that it is your lump of gold; for, as you never meant to use it, the one will do you as much good as the other.”

The worth of money is not in its possession but in its use.

~ Aesop’s Fables, sixth century B.C. ~

Money Is Just A Tool

It is a way to purchase our necessities such as water, food and shelter. It is also a way to invest in yourself, invest in your future, purchase nice things, gain experiences, a way to do some good in the world.

Don’t think of spending money in just pure financial terms. For example, if you want to learn something offer to take an expert in that area out for lunch. Pick their brains on that topic and learn from their experience. The price of a lunch pales in comparison to what you can learn from them; saving you decades of hard work.

Spend money on making yourself better, healthier and happier. As far as investments go, nothing is more important than your own wellbeing. The stock market may go up and down, cryptocurrency may be the next biggest thing, and the housing market may be a safe bet. But none of them can help you if you’re in a bad way. When it comes to investments, your surest bet is investing in you.

Money Is Like A River

You don’t have to be rich or a millionaire to spend your money. You should spend within your means, build up some savings, invest in your future, but don’t be a greedy fish.

Money is like a river, it should flow freely.

What is given out will come back. If you damn up a river, the water becomes stagnant and foul, and only foul creatures like to live in stagnant waters.

Let the river flow and flood for good things to flourish.
